1-Year Propage Anniversary

Happy Friday ya’ll!

It’s been one year, sans one day, since I posted publicly some vision for our our app Redocd. As I’m updating the website for the new things we’re doing, my gut reaction looking at these old posts, marketing materials, copy…it’s to cringe a little bit since we (the team here) have elevated some since making them. Our team is better at writing code, our team is better at designing, and I for sure am better at communicating vision and scrum mastering.

After I get through the initial cringe, I realize I don’t want to hide any of our history. Although it may now look silly, amateur, dreamer, whatever…I am so proud of where we have come as a team. I am proud of myself, that we even made it this far. And if nothing else, we did it. We built a fun, beautiful app that if used intentionally, will bless any (smaller-sized) organization.

We are at another checkpoint, getting ready to go into Fall 2021. I think Redocd (DreamLeader) has been the most consistent thing in my career to date, aside from my four-year stint at Blackbaud (great job). Soon Redocd will overtake that “Enduring” or “Consistent” trophy, where as the rest of my career of is seemingly peppered with contracts, and jobs; all of them so meaningful, and all of them preparing me to set out in my own boat in time.

We have big goals for Redocd, and DreamLeader as the parent company. Tommy, my new partner and I have set course and we are well underway to meet some new, exciting, and uncharted seas. I could not be happier with where we are today. I, of course, wish always we would get there sooner…but the process has truly helped me enjoy the process.

Truly God, as a big Dad sitting in his chair, has slowed me down some so I can to savor the moments like with my developer, where we work in the ‘dark’ (non-production), where no one sees working out the things we’ve now overcome and survived. Deployments failed and resurrected, only to be delivered (mostly) on-time.

We are a blessed company of people, and I for sure am one today. I raise a coffee to Redocd, to our past year of vision casting, and to the next year of delivery.

Client Expry-Share

“Can I have my Clients upload directly to my pages”? Today, is that day.

The newly released Client Expry-Share is now available in Redocd! This feature is revolutionary because it allows you and your team to build out your pages, folders, and everything else needed to collaborate as a team…and then…share a limited access portal for clients to upload their files into the right spots in your team pages.

Why is this so important?

This feature allows you to give your Client ‘map’ of where to upload their documents (& shareable links too) and include instructions and additional details for your Client…all by sharing a single link. Save yourself from the back and forth of emailing with your Client, or from the hassle of giving your Client a “dump-everything folder” to later re-organize every file and link later. No more.

How it Works

Prep the Page

First, simply Clone your last flashpage. This page will have your existing folder workflow on it and cloning will create a new ‘shell flashpage’, maintaining your team’s current folder structure / workflow.

Send It!

Next, click the Share button, and choose to either copy the link, or email it directly to your Client with an optional note.

Also, you can ‘prep’ the flashpage with details and files that your Client may need. For example, if your Client needs to upload several documents, you can include some instructions on the flashpage, along with other attachments to help them with the process.

Wait for the Magic

The best part: let your Client do the work for you, and do that work in the right places. When providing them access to your flashpage, your internal information is protected as your Client can only do a certain number of actions:

  • Upload documents
  • Upload link-shared files
  • Add a note

Your client won’t see your team’s internal conversations, meeting notes, or even the meta data about the flashpage that you’ve shared.

Enjoy the organization…with your Organization

Even while the Client is doing their work, your team can see the entire picture and can continue to do their work. And after the Client is done, the link expires, your system is updated and organized, and your team is ready for more collaboration.

Godspeed!

Future Look – Propage

Happy Friday Redocd family!

Being a startup, we’re constantly in the tension of building and executing for TODAY, and also trying to dream up the future for TOMORROW. Today this article…is more the latter.

We are putting together some amazing concepts, and today I wanted to share and get your feedback on our team project space – the Propage.

A place you want to live

With the current Propage, the system just presents you with a BUNCH of files you and your team have recently uploaded or linked. While having quick access is helpful at times, it doesn’t create a place you want to work, a place you want your work to live.

Being efficient is for the single user. Having awareness is for the team.

I wanted to help the user feel like their at ‘home’ when they first arrive. It may not be ‘as efficient’ as having all the recent files in your face, but at least you will know where to start, feel organized, and move from there.

The proposed new look provides a sense of ‘spatial awareness’.

In comparison, in a good way, Google Drive is built for single users: it gets you your files fast. But when you start to use Google Drive for a team, or even multiple teams, it becomes a clutter nightmare. There is no ‘fixed’ places where you can get your bearings. Everything is dynamic, changing – new files, new folders – new new new!

Redocd is focused on Team Efficiency. How can I empower everyone else on my team, or in my organization, to find quickly, collaborate easily, and build together. To do this in software, there must be ‘fixed areas’ you can count on to be the same no matter which project you’re looking at.

More Power, More Home

If you have used Redocd before, you’ll quickly see the difference between the current Propage, and the new. A couple concepts we are playing with:

  • Project Team Image – An image of the product you’re working on
  • Team Logo – A logo for your team
  • Team Members – Visualizing the team members on the page, their role and maybe the types of documents they typically contribute (e.g. Design Mockups)
  • Productivity and Team Stats – These are really cool. We’re dialing in what stats we want to provide. I won’t share all of what we’re thinking, but we will have things like “How many times did another team use/clone a feature of yours?”

Let us know what you think could be really cool or useful for your project team page. What would you want to see, in addition to quick access to your files , features (Flashpages) and meeting notes?
